Second suspect charged after assault on man and woman in Herne Bay High Street

A second suspect has been charged in connection with a serious assault.

Officers were called to the High Street in Herne Bay at around 3.30am on Sunday, March 3, following reports that a man and woman had been attacked.

They were taken to hospital and have since been discharged.

On Sunday, detectives charged John Hazelgrove, 29, with causing grievous bodily harm with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm.

Hazelgrove, of no fixed address, appeared before Folkestone Magistrates’ Court the next day. He was remanded in custody to appear before Canterbury Crown Court on Monday, April 8.

A 29-year-old man from Herne Bay was previously charged on Tuesday, March 5, with grievous bodily harm with intent and assault causing actual bodily harm. He was remanded to appear at Canterbury Crown Court on April 8.

A 21-year-old woman, also arrested in connection with the incident, has been bailed pending further enquiries.

Investigators continue to appeal for witnesses to the incident and anyone with information, who has not already spoken to police, is urged to come forward.
