Red Arrows set to come to Herne Bay as part of summer spectacle

The Bay Promo Team has embarked on its biggest challenge yet – to bring the Red Arrows to Herne Bay next summer.

The plan follows an air display on the seafront last month that drew crowds of up to 20,000 – despite the weather putting paid to a visit from two Lancaster bombers and a Spitfire.

Now organisers hope to bring 50,000 visitors to the town, but they have just a month to raise £13,000 to fund a display by the famous RAF aircraft.

Gerald McCarthy, of the Bay Promo Team, believes it would be Herne Bay’s “biggest ever” event.

He said: “I’m 99% certain that the Red Arrows will be flying next summer.

“It costs £13,000 for their display teams, and this would be without the other elements we would need to make it a full air show.

“What we are looking for is individuals and businesses to help us bring the famous Red Arrows across the sky next summer.

“We’ve had a handful of businesses helping so far, and have raised several thousand as a step forward to get the ball rolling, but we have some way to go.

“We are confident that the community will help out. It would undoubtedly be the town’s biggest ever event. We believe we could bring 50,000 visitors here.”
