Hythe Town goalkeeper George Kamurasi scores last-minute equaliser at VCD Athletic

Hythe boss Sam Denly expects keeper George Kamurasi to dine out on his goalscoring heroics for some time to come.

The Ugandan sparked wild celebrations when he got on the end of a corner in stoppage-time to earn the Cannons a 2-2 draw at VCD on Saturday.

Kamurasi’s goal was all over social media this week and you can be sure his team-mates won’t hear the end of it.

Denly said: “I can guarantee at training he’ll be talking a lot about it. He’s certainly not shy.

“It’s one of those things you don’t witness very often in your career as a player or manager.

“It was a special moment for him. We had a corner a couple of minutes earlier and sent him up for that as well. We just thought ‘why not?’.

“Play broke down and then we had another corner so he’s gone up again and caused chaos.

“He’s not exactly small, is he? A 6ft 6in giant in there is going to cause mayhem and that’s what he did. Luckily for us, he got the goal.”

Hythe are now four games unbeaten but three straight draws mean they’re now five points adrift of the Bostik South East play-offs.

“We can’t let that gap get much bigger,” said Denly. “Results didn’t go our way at all on Saturday.

“We need to turn one point into three and pretty quickly if we’ve got ambitions to get back in the top five.”

Hythe host Three Bridges on Saturday before visiting Faversham on Tuesday.

Denly said: “We’ll be looking to get maximum points but they won’t be easy games.

“Three Bridges are a decent side and Faversham, typically, seem to have picked up a few results lately.

“We’ve lacked quality in the final third over the last few games. The keeper’s got our equaliser so that tells you all you need to know.

“We had opportunities at 1-0 to extend the lead and put the game to bed, which we didn’t take, so we’ve got to be more ruthless. We seem to have addressed the issues at the back.

“We look sturdy and strong with Ollie Rowe coming in but we need to be more clinical in front of goal and kill teams off when we have the opportunity.

“We were light on Saturday. We had four or five out ourselves: Ryan Palmer, Zach Fagan, Junior Aikhionbare and Nigel Neita.

“I’m trying to get one or two in. Whether we can for Saturday, we’ll see, but I hope one can come back if not two.”

Palmer is definitely available after serving a one-match ban.
