Hythe Town joint-manager Clive Cook keen to make Reachfields a place visiting teams don't look forward to visiting

Hythe Town’s new joint-managers are determined to restore Reachfields’ fearsome reputation among visiting clubs.

Clive Cook has teamed up with Tony Beckingham in the dugout, having previously served as the Cannons’ assistant boss under Scott Porter.

Hythe won just eight of 28 home league games while Tim Dixon was in charge and Cook knows that has to change.

He said: "No-one used to like coming to Hythe. They hated coming to Hythe. So many people have said that to me because we knew how to win ugly.

"Of course, you’d like to play attractive football but there has to be a Plan B.

"I want people to look at the fixtures, see they’ve got Hythe away and think ‘oh no’. At the moment, we haven’t got that. People come down thinking it’s a three-pointer and that’s down to a lack of confidence.

"We’ve got to instil a bit of steel. I want people to come to Hythe and know they’re going to be in a war, a battle. That’s what we’ve got to do to start with."

Cook and Beckingham have been on the phone to players ever since they stepped in to replace Dixon.

They signed striker Frankie Sawyer last week and brought Taser Hassan, Louis Sprosen, George Savage, Dave Cook and Jamie Collado back to the club, with more arrivals to come.

Cook said: "Results haven’t been good enough and the squad’s not strong enough. That’s what we’ve been working hard on.

"When I walked into the changing-room for the first time, the mood was low. There was no atmosphere.

"Players respond to scoring goals and winning games. We need to get a couple of wins as soon as possible and that’ll get the smiles back on their faces.

"At the moment they don’t know how to win ugly."
