Hythe Town manager Clive Cook keen for his side to improve after slow start

Clive Cook admits he will be under pressure if Hythe do not start picking up results.

The Cannons have lost their opening two games in Bostik South and were knocked out of the FA Cup in a preliminary round replay at home to Corinthian Casuals on Tuesday after a draw in Surrey on Saturday. They led in both matches.

The games are coming thick and fast for Town, who harbour ambitions of a promotion push and Cook’s men face a testing trip to Phoenix Sports on Saturday (3pm) before the visit of Ramsgate to Reachfields on Bank Holiday Monday (3pm).

Cook said: “It’s been a slow start but it’s early days.

“We were poor in the first league game but the second game we were good against a big, strong team in Thamesmead (last Tuesday).

“We smashed them in the second half but then we switched off in the 95th minute and it cost us a decent point.”

He added: “There are no easy games in this league. Phoenix Sports and Ramsgate are both decent, with good managers – they’ll both have a game plan to try and beat us.

“If we did lose another game I guess it would put me under pressure. You look at the managerial casualties already and it’s crazy.

“You have to keep believing in yourself and what you’re doing. If people are going to question you after two games, then there’s no point in being there at all. I don’t pay any attention to all that, though. I don’t worry about it. You can’t tell anything this early, you have to look at things after nine or 10 games.”
