Hythe Town boss Steve Watt praises the impact of Alex Flisher in his first managerial role

Steve Watt says Hythe assistant boss Alex Flisher has taken to management like a duck to water.

Watt made Flisher his new No.2 after Darren Blackburn left Reachfields over the summer.

It was a first taste of life in the dugout for Flisher, who played alongside Watt at Maidstone and under him at Hythe.

“Flish is doing really well, as I expected he would,” said Cannons boss Watt.

“He gives his all in whatever he does and he’s no different in management.

“He watches every game he possibly can in terms of highlights and clips and gives feedback to the boys, and they’ve really liked his approach.

“He’s learning the job as he goes along but it hasn’t fazed him at all.

“He’s got on with it as I thought he would do.

“I’ve always tried with my assistants at Hythe to do as much of the work as possible, to make their lives easier, but Flish has taken to it like a duck to water.

“The players respect him and he’s a good guy.

“He’s been first-class and I’m sure he’ll continue in that.”

Hythe, 4-0 winners over Sevenoaks last Tuesday, were without a game at the weekend.

The sixth-placed Cannons return to Isthmian South East action at home to Burgess Hill this Saturday (3pm), having already beaten them in the FA Trophy this season.

“They’re a good side,” said Watt. “They’re sitting nicely in the league (10th) and they’ve had some good results.

“We’re in for another tough game - as they all are.

“We’re at home, which is a plus. We’ve just got to keep doing what we’re doing.

“It’s too early to read anything into the table.

“We’ve had a good start - better than last year - but you’re not going to get a true reflection of the table until 15 games.

“You’ve got big clubs like Ramsgate, Cray Valley and Sheppey, who’ve only played three games where they’ve done so well in the FA Cup.

“Until they’ve caught up, you won’t have a true reflection.

“It’s fantastic to see teams from our league getting through to the First Round Proper of the FA Cup.

“I always say to my players, every year there’s a story - can you be that story?

“It wasn’t to be for us this season but I’m glad teams from our league have done it and hopefully they progress again.”

Hythe are due at Ashford in the Velocity Cup next Wednesday (7.45pm).
