Hythe Town boss Scott Porter wants to add two players to make his squad competitive in Ryman League Division 1 South

Hythe boss Scott Porter has targeted two new signings to make his side play-off contenders next season.

Town are finishing this campaign as the form team in Ryman League Division 1 South, having won three games on the spin and five of their last six. They beat Chipstead 2-0 on Saturday and won 6-0 at Crawley Down on Easter Monday.

But they were never in the hunt for a top-five finish during 2013/14 and Porter, who met with the club’s board of directors last night (Tuesday), wants things to be different next term.

He said: "If I’d had this team at the start of the season, I don’t think the play-offs would be a problem. But you get seasons like that. It’s been a transitional season, people coming and people going.

"I’ll speak to the boys on Thursday. I want to get sorted before we go away. I want to add two players and hopefully I can do that."

And what about the players Porter already has?

"I wouldn’t want to get rid of anyone," he said. "I want to keep them all and add a couple. We know how long the season is and you need a decent squad to compete with the top sides.

"We need two more players but I’ve got the spine of the team. And having Sam Bewick and Dan Stubbs from the start of the season will be like having two new signings."

Hythe will finish eighth if they win their final game of the season, at home to Walton Casuals, on Saturday.

Kick-off at Reachfields is at 3pm.
