Childrensalon profits tip over £10 million mark

Bosses at a luxury children’s clothes retailer hailed another “amazing year” as sales grew 52% and profits rose three-quarters to tip the £10 million mark.

Childrensalon, in Tunbridge Wells, gained more than 47,000 customers last year, packing more than 800,000 items across more than 200,000 orders.

It hired 80 new members of staff, taking its total to some 170. It expects to employ 450 people by 2018 as customers in the Middle East and Europe snap up its designer babygrows and child­ren’s dresses made by the likes of Armani, Gucce and Dolce & Gabbana.

Turnover reached £42.8 million as it was named in the MegaGrowth 50 list of Kent’s fastest-growing companies and the Sunday Times Fast Track 100, International Track 200 and Profit Track 100.

Its success has continued into 2016, being named winner of the Customer Service and Commitment Award at the KEiBAs on Thursday, June 23.

In her company report, chief executive Michele Harriman-Smith said: “On our website we made constant improvements in our customers’ user journey and invested in further additional editorial content to share our expertise.

“We look forward to 2016 with excitement that we can continue on our quest to become the best loved childrenswear shop in the world.”
