Wellbeing Symposium at Kent Showground, Detling, to show employers how to keep healthy workforce, featuring Paralympian Steve Brown from Sittingbourne

How does a business turn tragedy into a sporting career? How does it get employees to think themselves happy?

These questions are answered at Kent’s only conference dedicated to managing a healthy workforce, which takes place today.

The Wellbeing Symposium at the Kent Showground, Detling, will have a range of speakers giving expert advice, including wheelchair rugby star Steve Brown, a 2012 Paralympian in Team GB.

The Sheppey born athlete, who lived in Minster until he was 18 and now resides in Sittingbourne, will tell the story of the accident which damaged his spinal cord in June 2005, turning his life in a different direction and leading to an extraordinary sporting career.

The ticketed morning session inside the Kent Event Centre will also feature happiness expert Simon Thorpe, Kent County Council leader Paul Carter, barrister Sophia Cannon and Sunday Times managing editor Eleanor Mills.

The conference then opens up to visitors during an afternoon of free workshops and exhibitions for anyone seeking wellbeing tips, advice and techniques.

Ben McGannan from Wellbeing People, one of the companies behind the event, said: “The Wellbeing Symposium is the only event of its kind in the South East.

“With workplace wellbeing so high on employer’s agendas at the moment, it really is a must visit event.

“It’s a great opportunity to hear thought provoking speeches, debate and network with like-minded professionals and build knowledge and practical strategies through our workshops.”
