A landmark Thanet hotel has reopened providing 15 new jobs following a £1.4 million refurbishment.
Shepherd Neame has invested in the makeover for The Botany Bay Hotel, formerly the Fayrness Hotel, at Kingsgate, near Broadstairs.
Fifteen new roles have been created at the hotel, taking the total number of staff to more than 50.
More employees are expected to be taken on in the next few months to cope with increased demand during the summer season.
The building has been remodelled to make the most of its breathtaking views across Botany Bay.
Two elegant orangeries replacing UPVC conservatories at the front, with a wrap-around deck added to allow guests to sit outside.
The brick exterior has been clad in traditional Kentish weatherboarding, with a new area for walkers to wash their boots and a bicycle park.
All 30 en-suite bedrooms have been refurbished, in natural sand and blue-green colours, and include coastal artefacts and pictures reflecting the Thanet coast.
The main bar has had a makeover and been divided into seating areas, with a new coffee lounge and fireplace.
Snacks and traditional pub meals are available in the bar with locally sourced produce and seafood featuring in the restaurant which has panoramic views.
The hotel has two function rooms available, one available for up to 40 people while the other can accommodate 100, with a private bar and dance floor and a licence for civil weddings.
Guests with disabilities will find level access to most trading areas with a new ramp access and powered door next to the main entrance, a toilet accessible to wheelchairs off the main bar, a lowered bar counter and a bedroom with enhanced accessibility, wide door, large floor space, bathroom grab rails and lowered bath.
Shepherd Neame chief executive Jonathan Neame said: “We are thrilled to unveil this exciting new development overlooking Botany Bay, one of the most beautiful beaches in Britain.
“This significant refurbishment is not just about investing in the hotel, but the coastal area of east Kent. Not only have we have created a significant number of new hospitality and catering roles, but the presence of a stylish destination hotel will provide a boost for the local tourism market.
“We are confident that with its new look, and new name, the Botany Bay Hotel will prove a popular choice for local residents to enjoy a drink or meal, and also an attractive venue for short breaks, weddings and functions.”
