The boss of a company which looks after elderly and disabled people in their homes picked up two gongs at the Kent Women in Business Awards.

Allyson Cooke, who is director at Maidstone-based The Garden of England Homecare, saw her business named employer of the year and picked up the inspired achievement award.

More than 200 people attended the black tie dinner at the Great Danes Hotel in Maidstone on Friday, March 10.

There were prizes for businesses in 21 categories, from start-up to construction.

Founder Hilary Steel said: “Increasing the categories this year showed that there is an incredible community out there keen to recognise and reward.

“All finalists were nominated by colleagues or clients with a record number being received this year.”

The independently judged awards were launched in 2013.

Ms Steel added: “The way business is being done is definitely changing and seeing people adapt and embrace these changes is showing growth potential in a whole new light.

“I look forward to following this progression over the coming months.”
