Gillingham boss Andy Hessenthaler will announce his intentions towards trialists Stanley Aborah, Jason Norville and Darren Lough this week after speaking to them at the weekend.

Belgium-based Aborah (pictured) is staying in England temporarily, while former Watford forward Jason Norville and full-back Lough, who played most recently for Newcastle United reserves, were all hoping to extend their stay at Gillingham permanently.

Hessenthaler could still use the trio on Tuesday’s friendly match at Faversham, but knows he needs to make a decision on them soon.

He spoke to the trio after Saturday’s game at Croydon Athletic.

Talking about former team-mate Norville, Hessenthaler said: "I have known him since my Barnet days. He’s been plagued by a lot of injuries and I’ve told him to come here and get his fitness levels up and get a few games under his belt and you never know.

"He did well on Saturday but we will have to wait and see on him."

Aborah is coming back from an 18-months on the sidelines with a groin injury.

"He can’t last the game at the moment but it was a difficult pitch for him (on Saturday) and it was a test to see what he was like on maybe an Accrington Stanley type pitch, no disrespect. Some pitches away from home would be like that and it was a test and I thought he did fine.

"His levels of fitness is down, but he is staying with us at the moment. There is no commitment yet but he is staying with us because he is over here for a certain period of time. We’ll have him in training."

Hessenthaler did admit there was some things of Aborah’s game that still need improving.

"Offensively he can be exciting but defensively he can be a bit of a hindrance at times," he said.

"We need to teach him that if he does stay."

The chance of Lough winning a deal was less likely.

"He did well (on Saturday) but is he any better than what we have?" said Hessenthaler.

"When you bring players in they need to be better than what you’ve got. You just have to say no to them. I will have a chat with him and see where we go."
