Police arrested a man on Wednesday as a result of a live appeal on BBC’s Crimewatch into the murder of Ditton man Danny King.

Kent Police’s major crime department arrested the man this morning in connection with a burglary in Dartford, during which a Peugeot 207 Cabriolet Couple was stolen.

A Peugeot 207 Cabriolet Coupe was featured in the appeal last night.

As a result of the broadcast, police say they have received a number of calls.

Detective Chief Inspector Jon Bumpus said: "We had a good evening. The calls we received confirmed information that we were already aware of which is always useful and important.

"The response to the Crimewatch appeal has continued this morning with some interesting leads which we are actively pursuing."

Crimewatch last night showed grainy CCTV images taken around the time of the killing.

The 51-year-old died after being shot four times at his home in Medina Road, Ditton, near Maidstone, early on Friday, October 17 last year.

Speaking on the programme, Det Chief Insp Jon Bumpus said: "I'm open-minded as to the motive behind Danny's murder.

"Just after 3am on Friday, October 17, Danny was shot four times while he slept in his home.

"His wife, son and young grandchildren were all asleep in bedrooms close by.

"Danny didn't have a chance.

"I'm hoping somebody will contact the programme this evening and tell me why Danny was murdered and who shot him."

He revealed they were looking for a Peugeot 207 Cabriolet Coupe. Detectives are unsure of the colour but it isn't white, and possibly stolen.

CCTV footage shows some people leaving the area of Mr King's house immediately after his murder and getting into a car.

Det Chief Insp Bumpus said he was interested to know more about two stolen Peugeot 207 Cabriolets. One was taken from Lambeth and found burned out in Croyden 24 hours after the murder.

Another was taken from Dartford but has never been recovered.

It was also revealed that police would like to speak to a man they believe could have vital information.

He was seen walking past a fish and chip shop in London Road, Ditton, at about 2.30am.

Speaking earlier, Det Chief Insp Bumpus said he was also interested in an incident at Mr King's address in November 2006 when the window of the lounge was shot out.

Det Chief Insp Jon Bumpus said: "I'm not saying these two events are connected, but the reason I'm reinvestigating the incident in 2006 is to see if there is anything that does link the two offences and can give us any leads to investigate further."
