A tearful daughter has told how she fears her 95-year-old mum won't be able to cope if Kent County Council shuts her care home.

Distraught Margaret Reeves's mum lives at Manorbrooke in Dartford which could be affected by council cuts.

Agnes McCarthy suffers from dementia and Margaret has begged the authority to keep her home open.

Manorbrook is one of three old people's homes likely to shut under a county council shake-up announced yesterday.

The plans will affect all but one of Kent's remaining residential care homes with the others will be sold off to private companies.

The plans will mean at least 100 residents will have to be found places in new homes across the county.

Kent County Council, which expects to save £2million a year as a result, insists the proposals will in time deliver better care for elderly people needing round-the-clock care.
