POLICE trying to identify a mystery body washed up on a Suffolk beach believe the man may be a missing person from Kent.

The corpse was washed up on a beach at Pakefield, near Lowestoft, on Friday February 20, where a dog walker discovered it shortly before 10am.

A post mortem examination revealed that the man was aged between 30 and 55, about 6ft 1ins tall and of slim build with mid-brown hair. The body had been in the water for between one and three months.

A spokeswoman for Suffolk Police said it was possible the person may be from Kent because of the tides and the length of time the body had been in the sea.

She said: “The body could have travelled a long way in three months and so obviously we are looking at the possibility of the man coming from coastal regions in the south of the country.”

The vague description police have compiled of the man from the body also matches a number of missing people from Kent. Police are working with DNA samples and dental records from the body to work out whether it is any of those listed.

They have also released pictures of the man’s shoes and jeans in the hope someone may recognise them. The jeans are made by Urban Spirit, which are only sold in branches of Peacocks department stores. The man’s shoes are brown and made by Clarks and 16,000 pairs were sold in the UK.

Anyone who knows someone who is missing and fits the description is asked to telephone Lowestoft Police on 01986 835100 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
