Furious Kent commuters have endured another morning of chaos on the trains.

A broken down train at Ramsgate, coupled with a power supply problem near the town's train depot, caused cancellations and long delays for the second day in a row.

Yesterday, a faulty train at Strood brought part of the Southeastern network to a standstill.

compensation claims

the problems of the past two days are expected to be the first real test of southeastern's new delay repay scheme.

passengers can apply for compensation if their journey is delayed by 30 minutes or more.

for delays of up to 59 minutes, southeastern will refund 50 per cent of the price of a single ticket or 25 per cent of the price of a return.

for delays of between one and two hours, this is doubled to the full price of a single ticket price or 50 per cent of a return. for delays of two hours or more, both single and return tickets will be refunded in full.

season ticket holders are also entitled to compensation.

claims can be made online or by post. they must be made within 28 days and include proof of travel.

Services to London St Pancras International, London Victoria and London Cannon Street were all affected this morning.

Trains that were not cancelled were subject to delays of around an hour. Others were revised at short notice, missing out certain stations en route to their final stop.

Southeastern faced a backlash from angry passengers on Twitter - some of them unhappy at the amount of information they had received from station staff.

The company declined to speak to KentOnline.

However, an announcement on its website, which will also be displayed at train stations from this afternoon, reads: "We're sorry that on a couple of days this week your journey may have been delayed by disrupted and cancelled train services."

Trains were still being disrupted at lunchtime, with delays expected until around 1pm.

Tickets were being accepted on "reasonable routes" on London Underground trains until 10am this morning.
