Checkout girl rescued from lift

A PART-time checkout girl got stuck in a department store lift and had to be rescued by firefighters.

The 18-year-old employee was stuck for at least half an hour on Sunday in an elevator in Chatham's Wilkinson store in the Pentagon Shopping Centre.

A spokesman for Medway Fire Station said: "We got the call at about 10.30am and were able to go down to the motor room and winch the lift down manually."

Store duty manager, Shaun Crowley said: "She's absolutely fine. We were able to talk to her through the lift door while she was stuck in there.

"As soon as we realised we called for the assistance of the fire and rescue service.

She was laughing when she came out and we all had a bit of a giggle about it."
