Chemical concerns in nail bar blaze

Part of Maidstone town centre was sealed off on Wednesday afternoon after fire broke out in a nail saloon.

Four pumps were called to the blaze in a back storeroom of The Nail Shop in St Faith Street. Firefighters used breathing apparatus amid concerns about the chemicals in the store.

Neighbouring properties, including Maplins electronics, were temporarily evacuated.

Nobody is believed to have been injured and the fire was extinguished within half an hour.
