Community warden set for showdown with council

A community warden is preparing to meet his ex-employers as part of a grievance procedure.

Bob Hughes will today meet officials from Kent County Council officials, who have so far refused to say whether or not he could be re-instated as community warden for Sevington, Smeeth, Mersham, Brabourne and Aldington.

Mr Hughes took the job in March - after retiring from a 33-year career in the Met Police - but in August was asked to leave for being “too challenging.”

Since Mr Hughes lost his job, hundreds of villagers have spoken out in support of him.

Many people - including parish and borough councillors - are angry that the county council made a decision without consulting the community.

This week the Kentish Express sent a petition to KCC as part of the campaign to “Bring Back Bob.”
