The last moments of a young mum who died in a car crash after texting her boyfriend as she drove were described to an inquest.

Vickie Lowe, 25, was over the drink-drive limit as she followed her boyfriend’s car after a 2am row.

The inquest heard that Miss Lowe, who worked at a Gillingham travel agency, flashed her lights at boyfriend James Smith as he drove his car along Boxley Road, Maidstone,

He pulled into a roadside bay and she drove straight past.

Mr Smith then began receiving text messages from her, including one which said she had been involved in a crash.

Seconds later she was involved in a fatal collision with an oncoming car.

Alison Grief, the assistant deputy coroner for Mid Kent and Medway, said Miss Lowe’s death had been caused by a combination of her alcohol consumption, the use of a mobile phone when driving and her emotional state caused by the argument with Mr Smith. She recorded a verdict of accidental death.

Miss Lowe leaves a son, Alex, aged seven.
