The London bound carriageway of the A2 was closed for more than an hour this morning after a car hit the central reservation.

It happened around 10.30am at the Pepper Hill/Northfleet junctions near Gravesend.

It was believed debris had scattered on the road, including a wheel from the car. The fire brigade were called to rescue the woman car driver.

As a precaution, the Kent Air Ambulance was called. While the coastbound carriageway was closed for the helicopter to land, the driver was taken by ambulance to Darent Valley Hospital.

Kent Police said the road re-opened at 11.50am.
