THOUSANDS of homes were affected by a power cut on Saturday evening.

At about 9.30pm, supplies to approximately 3,000 customers in the Barnsole Road area of Gillingham were lost to a fault on an underground cable.

EDF Energy Networks engineers restored supplies to more than 2,000 within 40 minutes and all but 19 had their power back by 2am on Sunday.

The final 19 houses had power restored at around 10.15am.

An EDF spokesman apologised for the inconvenience.
