A mega moggy from Maidstone has been chosen to take part in PDSA's annual pet slimming competition.

Obese puss Lady is a hefty 8.3 kg, which means she's 65 per cent heavier then she should be.

That's why she was chosen to be one of 11 finalists to take part in Pet Fit Club - a six-month diet and fitness challenge.

Louise and John Lane are the white cat's owners.

Louise said: "Lady had skin cancer earlier this year and had to have the tips of her ears removed, so I think we've compensated for that by spoiling her.

"On top of her normal cat food she used to get bowls of milk or cream every day and scraps of meat that we didn't finish.

"She also has a very sweet tooth and loves chocolate and ice cream.

"But all that's stopped since the vet told us she needed to lose weight. We've cut out the treats and we're going to stick to her new diet until she's hit her target weight."

Lady's diet and fitness programme is being specially tailored by the vets and nurses at Gillingham PDSA PetAid hospital.
