Police were called to a pub in Chatham last night amid concerns about a firework display.

Officers were called to the Waggon at Hale pub in Capstone Road at 8.30pm after families who had gathered to watch the display quickly became worried.

One eyewitness said there were reports children had suffered burns, with the display 'getting out of control'. They said some left shortly after it began.

The eyewitness claimed there were also concerns raised about the proximity of the display to the fireworks, and whether fireworks were going off in the wrong places.

By the time police arrived the display had ended, so they gave safety advice to the pub.

Community safety chief Cllr Mike O’Brien (Con) said the concerns had been passed onto the police and council licensing officers.

The pub was contacted for a response but refused to comment, saying the manager was away for the weekend.
