MP Ann Widdecombe loves them - but Britain's only charity for rescued goats is struggling to survive.

Buttercups Sanctuary, in Boughton Monchelsea, has only half the number of volunteer helpers it needs to care for more than 100 abused, neglected and abandoned goats.

Buttercups, whose patron is the Maidstone and the Weald MP, was founded by Bob and Valerie Hitch in 1989.

Mr Hitch said: “We’ve been going for 20 years and we’ve never been this short of volunteers.”

Buttercups, off Wierton Road, is open to visitors on the first Sunday of every month, from 1-4pm, until October. The next open day is this Sunday.

If you are aged 16 or over and can volunteer at least one morning a week from 8.30am to noon, phone Bob on 06122 746410.
