Gillingham manager Martin Allen admitted he has never had it so good after chairman Paul Scally allowed him to dip into the transfer market again before the weekend.

Mr Scally gave Allen the green light to sign Romain Vincelot on loan from Brighton and the Frenchman responded by smashing home the winner on his debut at AFC Wimbledon.

"I don’t think I’ve ever had it like this before to be honest," said Allen (pictured with Paul Scally), who was keen to strengthen his squad following the loss to injury of several key players.

"I had three players missing and I rang Mr Scally, who was in China, and I woke him up at about three in the morning, which was a mistake.

"I thought when I phoned back and told him in the morning he would probably say no. But he was as good as gold. He went ahead and gave us what we needed."
