A FORMER company director who died when his car was struck by two vehicles will be remembered for his humour and humility, say members of his family.

Michael Lucas, 63, of Church Road, Pembury, near Tunbridge Wells, was killed near the Dartford River Crossing on Friday, May 3, after his car broke down in lanes three and four of the A282 approach road to the crossing and was hit by two other vehicles.

As police renewed their appeal for witnesses, one of Mr Lucas’ daughters, Rosie, said: “My dad was a humble man who will never be forgotten.

“He was a charmer, a chatterbox and often found humour in the most peculiar of circumstances. He embraced adversity and found peace with it. He was a man who was so many things to so many people.”

Mr Lucas, former director of a Tonbridge printing firm, was married to Kate, 58, for 35 years. He also leaves three daughters, 23-year-old Dot, 26-year-old Rosie and 31-year-old Lucy.

Dot said: “Through his struggle with illness, a late-onset ataxia, dad obtained a unique strength of character. He had courage and determination. He allowed anyone into his life, understanding all situations without second thought and hesitation.”

The drivers of the car and van involved in the accident were unhurt. Mr Lucas was taken to the Darent Valley Hospital, Dartford, where he died soon afterwards.

Mr Lucas, born in Watford, had lived in Pembury for 24 years and was active in the church, voluntary organisations and the cricket club. He was a footballer and cross-country champion in his youth and later enjoyed computing, gardening and photography.

The family has requested that, while flowers are welcome, they would prefer donations to be made to Compaid, the charity which helped Mr Lucas’ rehabilitation after his illness.
