Heatwave: Kent set for hottest day of the year so far

Kent's set to sizzle - with temperatures predicted to be higher than Malta and Paphos in Cyprus.

The Met Office is predicting the mercury will rise to 27C tomorrow, which would make it the hottest day of the year so far.

It would also nudge the thermometer higher than some traditional European hot spots such as the Algarve and Costa Del Sol, which which only reach the mid 20s.

The previous highest UK temperature of the year was in Gravesend on May 16, when we saw a figure of 25.8C.

A statement from the Met Office said tomorrow would see "a dry and mostly sunny day with only a little fair weather cloud developing through the afternoon.

"Light winds will make it feel very warm in any afternoon sunshine."
