The M20 has fully re-opened after a horsebox overturned this morning.

Both carriageways between J7 (A249 Detling Hill) and J6 (A229 Blue Bell Hill) were shut while the horse was transferred to another vehicle.

The inside lane of the London-bound carriage remained closed until around 2.30pm while recovery work continued.

The crash happened on the London-bound side of the M20 at about 10am.

One horse was inside the box, attached to a Land Rover, when it toppled.

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service animal rescue unit and two other fire crews were called to the scene.

Firefighters helped release the horse, which managed to walk out by itself before being transferred to another horsebox.

No other vehicles are thought to have been involved and there were no reports of injuries.
