A man killed by a rush-hour train is thought to be a 63-year-old local.

Police have not so far revealed his name but say details have been passed to the coroner.

The tragedy happened close to Sandling station, just after 8.20am last Thursday.

It involved an Ashford to Dover train and services were disrupted as officers and paramedics attended the scene.

A British Transport Police spokesman said today: "Officers were called after a report of a person being struck by a train.

“The person, believed to be 63 years and from the Lyminge area, was
declared dead at the scene.

“The incident is being treated as non-suspicious and a file has been prepared for the coroner.”

Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service also attended the scene.

Train services had to be cancelled that morning or diverted via Canterbury West.

No trains stopped between Ashford International and Dover Priory Station and a replacement bus service was put in place.

The line was handed back to Network Rail at 9.25am.
