Water gushes in Orpington High Street after parts of Bexley, Crayford and Dartford flooded

Just when you thought it was safe...

Parts of Kent have yet again been deluged - just days after a burst pipe caused misery, flooding and even cars crushed in a car park.

A problem arose when Thames Water was replacing a water meter in Orpington High Street, causing a huge fountain of water to gush into the road.

Barriers were put up to shield passersby, but the spout was high enough to reach the third storey of a nearby building.

The problem has now been rectified and no water supplies were affected.

It came just one day after all homes were restored with water in Dartford and Crayford.

Hundreds of people in parts of Bexley, Crayford, Dartford, Stone and Wilmington were left with either very low water pressure or no supply at all because of the problem.

Cars were crushed between the floor and roof of a car park in Crayford when blocks at the base of the car park swelled as they were lifted up by flood water.

The town's High Street and Tower Retail Park were submerged and Crayford Road was closed at the junction of Station Road and Roman Way.
