The 22-year-old was followed by the patrol officers to Serpentine Road where they pulled up beside him at a stop sign at the end of the road and spoke to him.

Immediately the officers could smell cannabis both on him and in the vehicle and a quick search of his man-bag found two different types of cannabis inside.

A court heard that inside it, officers discovered a bag of weed which weighed 6.18g and a second bag of cannabis resin weighing in at 4.66g.

After being pulled over, Watkins, of Fairfield Close, Kemsing, Sevenoaks, was given a roadside drug swipe which he failed and a drug impairment test was carried out on him and he didn’t pass that either.

He was later charged with driving whilst unfit through drugs and possession of cannabis and admitted both offences when he appeared before magistrates in Maidstone on January 23.

A charge of failing to provide a specimen for analysis was withdrawn by prosecutor, Rajni Prashar after Watkins entered guilty pleas to the two other charges.

The prosecutor added: “The officers noticed the smell of cannabis, both on him and in the vehicle, a small quantity was found in a manbag which belonged to him.

“He tested positive at the roadside and a fit test was also impaired and he made no comment in interview, he has no previous convictions.”

Magistrates also heard Watkins who works in construction earning about £1,247 a month, would be able to keep his job as he would still be able to get to work by train, as he knew he would be banned from driving.

The bench fined him £287 for the driving whilst unfit through drugs offence and banned him from the road for 12 months.
