Now travellers take over car park

Travellers have taken up residence in a Gillingham car park.

Caravans and trucks have now filled the Balmoral Gardens car park,in Balmoral Road, Gillingham.

Medway Council says it has started proceedings to remove the travellers.

A spokesman said: "The council became aware there was an unauthorised encampment at Balmoral Gardens, Gillingham, at the end of last week.

"The council immediately started the legal process to remove this encampment and a court hearing is scheduled for Monday morning to seek an order to do this."

A group of travellers took over the former council offices at the Muncipal Buildings, Gillingham, earlier this month.

It is not clear if the same group has now moved into the Balmoral Gardens car park
