With just a few weeks to go before the referendum on the EU takes place, voters in Kent are being encouraged to make sure they are eligible to take part.

As campaigning by the rival groups reaches fever pitch in the run up to June 23, it is not too late to ensure you have a say in the historic poll.

If you want to have your say at the EU Referendum, you must be registered to vote.

You can cast your vote so long as you are registered to vote and are:

• A British or Irish citizen living in the UK, or

• A Commonwealth citizen living in the UK who has leave to remain in the UK or who does not require leave to remain in the UK

• A British citizen living overseas who has been registered to vote in the UK in the last 15 years

In England, Scotland or Wales, you can register to vote online anytime at gov.uk/register-to-vote.

If you are a British citizen living abroad, you can register to vote online in the same way.

If you want to take part in the referendum and you are not on the register you have until midnight on Tuesday, 7 June to submit an application for a vote.

The deadline for applying for a postal vote at the referendum is Wednesday June 8 at 5pm.

Polling stations across the county will be open from 7am to 10pm on Thursday 23 June 2016.

The results for the different areas for Kent will be declared overnight with the counting centre for the south east region held at Southampton.
