A prisoner who escaped from a Kent jail is still on the run.

The public are being advised not to approach Raymond Atkins, 39, who hasn't been seen since Saturday at around 4.45pm.

It comes just weeks after murderer Jamie Frater - who stabbed a teacher to death - escaped from the same prison.

He failed to return following work in the community.

Atkins was released from Blantyre House Prison in Goudhurst on home leave for family reasons, but didn't stay at an agreed bail hostel in Brighton.

His last known whereabouts are said to be St George's Road, Hastings on Saturday.

He is described as white European, of medium build, 5ft 8in tall with brown eyes and dark, cropped hair. He has piercings in his left ear.

If anyone has seen him or has information as to his whereabouts, contact a local police number or 999.

Police couldn't confirm if the Raymond Atkins who has gone missing is the same one jailed after a street robbery went wrong in Bexhill-on-Sea, Sussex in 2005 - when a pensioner died of a heart attack following the theft.

A Prison Service spokesperson said: “This is now a matter for the police.

“Only prisoners representing minimal risk of escape and harm to the
public are eligible for release on temporary licence.

"They must pass a rigorous risk assessment and adhere to a strict set of rules at all times.

“Those who breach these conditions in any way will be subject to disciplinary proceedings and are likely to be moved to closed conditions.”
