Police probe race attack

TWO Asian men were left seriously injured following an attack in Northumberland Heath on Sunday, October 7.

The two victims were walking along Mill Road when they were both hit around the back of the head with what are believed to be long blunt instruments.

One man, 35, was beaten unconscious, the other, 44, fled the scene to get help.

He was chased by two men, both white, who caught up with him outside a petrol garage in Belmont Road and launched another attack.

The Asian men were targetted as they walked past the Northumberland Heath social club at just before 1am in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Two men, one with a boxer dog, confronted the victims and an altercation ensued.

They were approached by two men, believed to be in their early 20s, one of whom had a boxer dog with him.

Following the attack, both victims were taken to Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Woolwich. The first victim sustained a broken arm, broken thumb, broken nose and lacerations to the front and back of his head. The second victim sustained lacerations to his head and severe bruising to his body.

Police are appealing for witnesses to xome forward in what they have called an unprovoked attack. One of the attackers had short brown cropped hair and the other short blonde spiky hair.
