A nine-month pregnant woman had to be rescued from her car when it hit an electricity pylon in the snow.

The woman was taken to William Harvey Hospital after the crash on the road between Wye and Hinxhill.

Although she didn't go into labour, she was treated for back and neck pain.

It comes after a day of blizzards, with Medway and Ashford among the worst areas in Kent.

The A28 is closed between Newenden and Rolvenden. with the border with Sussex also bad.

Police in the area have also been responding to a number of calls about youths throwing snowballs at cars, houses and people.

Four young people were warned after throwing snowballs at elderly shoppers in Ashford town centre and there have been reports of young people in Beaver Lane, Vicarage Lane and Hothfield causing a nuisance.

Ch Supt Chris Hogben, South Kent Area Commander said: "I would firstly like to urge drivers in the Ashford area to take extra care on the roads this evening as there has been snow falling for most of the day.

"I would also urge parents to speak to their children about enjoying the snow safely. By all means have fun with snowballs, but not if it means you hurt or frighten people or damage their property. Do not throw snowballs at people, vehicles, or people's homes."

He said there had been reports of stones being used in the snowballs.
