Crashes on M25 Darenth Interchange, A21 Pembury Road and the M2 near Chatham as heavy rain lashes the county

Drivers faced rush hour chaos on Kent's roads this morning as heavy rain lashed the county and led to slippery conditions.

Two lanes of the M20 are closed on the London-bound stretch between junction 12 for Cheriton and junction 11 for the Channel Tunnel.

It caused heavy congestion on the A21 Alkham Valley Road.

A car hit the central reservation just before 9am and the ambulance service sent two cars and two ambulances.

Two people were taken to the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford, including a woman in her 20s who had chest and back pain.

Also in Cheriton, a motorcyclist came off his bike at 8.10am and was taken to the same hospital with neck, back and hip pain.

Three lanes were also blocked on the M25 anticlockwise before junction 2 for the Darenth Interchange after a crash involving three vehicles, causing long delays.

The lanes were open by 10.30am, but traffic was still slow.

Fire crews were called to cut free one man, in his 60s, who was trapped following the accident involving a car, van and lorry.

There was also tailbacks on the M2 London-bound between junction 3 for Chatham and junction 2 for Strood after an accident, but the road has now re-opened.

Elsewhere, the A21 Pembury Road was shut in one direction between the Tunbridge Wells and Pembury turn offs. It re-opened just after 9.30am.

Earlier today, there was heavy congestion on the Old Thanet Way after a motorcyclist and a car collided at Chestfield.

The road has now been re-opened and traffic is easing.

On the ferries, DFDS Seaways passengers travelling between Dover and Calais are facing hour-long delays due to "adverse weather conditions".
