Passengers were evacuated and trains cancelled as a rush-hour carriage caught fire at Marden earlier today.

Firefighters were called out just before 6pm after rubber wheel bearings on the front wheels of a Southeastern carriage were alight.

Passengers from the first four carriages were evacuated as crews used dry powder and hose reels to put out the fire within half an hour.

But services between Tonbridge and Ashford suffered delays and cancellations.

Replacement buses were laid on between Tonbridge and Ashford International stations.
