Warning after boy is approached by strangers

KENT Police have issued a warning to parents and children after an 11-year-old boy was chased by two men who told him to get into their car.

The incident happened on Monday afternoon in the village of High Halden, near Ashford.

Police say boy was waiting at a bus stop when a man in a car shouted at him and told him to get into his car, thought to be a white Jeep.

The boy ran down the road away from the man, who chased him. A second man, who was driving the Jeep, followed in the vehicle.

The quick-thinking boy ran to a house and banged on the door and the man ran back to the Jeep, which drove off towards Tenterden.

It was dark at the time of the incident and the boy has only been able to provide a brief description of the man who chased him.

He is described as white, aged 35-38, stocky build, wearing a leather coat and a deer stalker hat.

Sgt Rachel Lovell said: “This young boy did the right thing by making for a house and banging on the door

"We do not know why this man shouted at him or gave chase. However, children should never get into a car with a stranger, or go off anywhere with them. If this type of incident does occur, they should tell their parents, who should let us know.”
