A woman has been airlifted to hospital after being hit by a car.

The 78-year-old pedestrian was struck by a vehicle in Maidstone town centre this morning.

She suffered serious injuries in the crash in Union Street shortly after 10.30am.

She was taken by Kent Air Ambulance to London's King's College Hospital suffering from head, shoulder and pelvic injuries.

Police and fire crews were also at the scene.

Union Street was closed from Chruch Street to Week Street.
