A 33-year-old woman has been killed in a head-on crash with a lorry.

Police are appealing for witnesses following the accident on Wednesday night on the Ashford Road at Thanington Without near Canterbury.

Police were called shortly before 10.30pm to reports that a blue Maestro City van had collided head-on with a white DAF lorry.

The van had been travelling from Canterbury towards Chartham and appears to have crossed the double white lines into the path of the oncoming lorry.

The driver of the Maestro van, a 33-year-old local woman, was pronounced dead at the scene by South East Coast Ambulance Service.

The driver of the lorry, a 27-year-old man, was taken to hospital with chest injuries.

Ashford Road was shut in both directions between Strangers Lane and the Milton roundabout to enable officers to investigate the collision.

The road was reopened again just before 4.30am on Thursday.

Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has any information which could help this investigation should contact Kent Police's serious collision investigation unit on 01622 798538.
