Addicks denied permission to play on-loan keeper

Nottingham Forest v Charlton Athletic

LIVERPOOL have rejected Charlton’s request to play on-loan goalkeeper Scott Carson against Nottingham Forest in Saturday’s FA Cup, third round tie at the City Ground.

Manager Alan Pardew was keen to have in-form Carson available but confirmed on Friday: "Liverpool asked us not to play him because if they found themselves in an emergency situation with goalkeepers after reaching the cup final it would prove embarrassing if they didn’t have Scott available."

Central defender Hermann Hreidarsson is also out of the tie having been given an injection in a knee injury while long-term casualties, skipper Luke Young and ex-Forest midfielder Andy Reid are also out of the reckoning.

Right-back Osei Sankofa starts a two-match suspension following his dismissal against Arsenal on Tuesday. But midfielder Darren Ambrose is expected to have recovered from a groin strain.
