Gillingham's Adebayo Akinfenwa has been linked with a move back to his former club Northampton Town
The Sixfields club, battling to preserve their Football League status, are reported to have made a bid for their former striker late on Wednesday evening.
According to The Northampton Chronicle & Echo, talks are said to be "ongoing" ahead of the transfer deadline which ends at 5pm on Thursday.
The 31-year-old striker posted a Twitter message responding to Cobblers fans saying: " “I have to say I’m feeling the luv from all the #ntfc fans truss me it means a lot. Whatever happens have faith the team will survive #BMO.
“Come back Bayo and help us survive this season." was one posting made by a supporter.
Akinfenwa has had two spells with Cobblers previously, making a total of 168 appearances hitting 71 goals, before moves to Priestfield. He re-joined Gillingham last summer, and has scored nine goals in 28 appearances this term.
