Bromley denied by late strike

Bromley were denied their first Blue Square South win of the season at Bishop's Stortford on Tuesday night after an 86th minute equaliser wiped out a first half lead.

Adrian Toppin has given the Lillywhites a 41st minute lead and although they had chances after the break to extend the advantage, their failure to do so proved costly as the match ended 1-1.

Karl Murray and Anthony Joseph paid the price for last weekend's poor performance and 2-1 defeat to Maidenhead, which Bromley manager Mark Goldberg described as dismal, being replaced by David Obaze and Mark Corneille.

Despite the changes, Goldberg's men could have been 2-0 down against Stortford before taking the lead - the hosts had two penalty appeals, for handball against Jack Haverson and a foul by former Stortford man Rob Gillman, turned down by the referee.

The Bromley breakthrough came when Nic McDonnell's deflected shot was parried by Stortford keeper Nicky Eyre only to land at Toppin's feet for a simple tap-in.

As the second half wore on and Bromley missed their chances, Stortford piled on the pressure and it eventually paid off when a free-kick was not cleared and Craig Edwards rifled home the equaliser from 12 yards.
