Callum Davies has requested a loan move move away from Priestfield to get more first team football.

He made his debut last season for the Gills, under manager Martin Allen, playing 22 games during the League 2 title-winning season.

His only appearance this season came in the Carling Cup, first round defeat to Bristol City.

Allen understands Davies’ situation and expects the 20-year-old to head out on loan this week.

Allen said: “I fully understand. It must be frustrating for him at times because he is a good player.”

Asked if the Gills would be responding by bringing in their own loan players, Allen said: “No. Nobody is coming in. We’ll keep working with the players we’ve got.

“They are playing all right. They’re a great bunch and good stuff will come their way.”
