Gillingham have put Callum Davies’ loan move out of the club on hold.

Davies has yet to start a league match but could now be called upon this weekend following an injury to centre-back Leon Legge at the weekend.

Twenty-year-old Davies was due to join an unnamed club on Tuesday, at his own request, but Gills boss Martin Allen has blocked the move.

Allen had no problem with Davies’ request and was happy to be able to give the player an opportunity with his own first team.

He said: “I don’t want him to get stale, to stand still and it is probably the right thing for him, but at the moment he can’t go.”

A loan move may still be on the cards in the future but with Legge suffering a back injury at Crawley, he remains a doubt for Sunday’s away game against Coventry City.

Davies started for Gillingham's development team on Tuesday afternoon, in a game against Oxford United.
