Exciting finish to ladies golf championships

LITTLESTONE Golf Club basked in glorious sunshine for the three days of the Ladies Kent Championship.

Forty players came from all over the county to compete in the championships and a further 20 women competed in the Senior Championship.

On the first day a new Littlestone course record of 68 was set for the by Claire Aitken (The London Club).

In the first of the two semi-finals for the championship, Littlestone member Gerry Bray took the eventual winner Helen Batt (Chart Hills) to the 21st hole and Kim Morris (Sundridge Park) beat Sian Evans (Faversham) in the second semi-final.

In an exciting final, Batt played a magnificent second shot into the green at the 19th hole and won the championship with a birdie.

Two Littlestone members were drawn against each other in the first of the two semi-finals for the Senior Championship, Julie Ballard eventually beating Rosemary Smallman on the 18th green.

Jenny Brown (Nizels) beat Janet Alldread (Sundridge Park) in the second semi and went on to beat Ballard in the Final.

The Consolation Plate was won by Kimberley Head (Kent National) (79), with the runner-up Barbara Woodham also coming in with 79 but losing out on count-back.

The Championship 2nd flight was won by Danielle Gibb (Rochester & Cobham) who beat Charlotte Hope (Wrotham Heath) on the 19th hole.
