Jepson in plea to Priestfield fans

JEPSON: "We'd love to clinch survival in front of the fans at Priestfield"

Gillingham v Cardiff City

ASSISTANT manager Ronnie Jepson is calling on the Gillingham fans to give his players the edge in Saturday's crucial clash with Cardiff.

The match is already a sell-out and the club are asking supporters without tickets not to come to Priestfield on the day.

But Jepson wants those who have booked their seats to turn up the volume in the stadium and help Gills in their bid to beat the drop.

He said: "The fans have been fantastic since Stan Ternent and I have been here and we just hope they can give the lads the extra edge against Cardiff. Hopefully they can right behind the team again and see us through to the finish line.

"We’d love to clinch survival in front of the fans at Priestfield and they can play a big part in helping us do that."

A win over Cardiff and defeats for either Brighton or Crewe would see Gillingham’s Championship status confirmed. But a draw or a loss would see Gills travel to Nottingham Forest on Sunday, May 8 with their safety still in the balance.

Jepson added: "The Cardiff game is massive. They are a good side with a high wage bill and they gave Reading a proper turning over last week. We know it’s going to be a difficult game.

"The club’s fate is going to be decided in the next two games. I believe if we can win one of the next two games it will keep us in the Championship. We want to do that against Cardiff but if we have to go to Forest and get something we will go there and play with no fear."

Meanwhile, Mamady Sidibe is likely to return to the Gillingham starting line-up after missing the 2-0 defeat at Derby with a slight hamstring strain.
