Geraint Jones believes the experience being gained by Kent youngsters like Fabian Cowdrey and Daniel Bell-Drummond in t20 cricket will be invaluable in the long-term.

Although warning that they need time to continue to acquire the art of performing consistently in the game’s shortest format, he says the early signs are encouraging.

Jones said: “I won’t be around forever but it is important for the experienced players like me to nurture them and help them as much as we can.

"What has impressed me is how the boys have approached it. They have obviously watched a lot of t20 cricket.

“It’s all about turning those 20s into 70s and 80s – a bit like Carbs did against us on Monday – and that has to be the next step in the boys going forward.

“They need time, though and that’s the county’s realistic view of where we are at the moment.

“We are looking at a few years down the line but fast tracking the boys is a great opportunity, giving them the chance to learn.”
